Forum Program

The APB was pleased to be joined on our December 6 forum by Jesse Zeman, the Executive Director for the BC Wildlife Federation. Jesse’s background is in social sciences looking at resident hunters’ preferences, motivations and willingness to contribute to wildlife management.  Jesse has a keen interest in the restoration and sustainable use of fish and wildlife across British Columbia. After a brief introduction to the BC Wildlife Federation, Jesse and Jason Jones (APB Vice President) will moderate a discussion on three broad topics:

o Moving the needle on cultural and prescribed fire
o How do we put fire back on the landscape at a meaningful scale?
o How do we manage trade-offs between species-at-risk?
o How do we shift government’s approach from crisis management to proactive ecosystem restoration?
o Fish, water and wetlands in the face of climate change
o How do we restore ecological function?
o How do we manage risk related to natural/soft infrastructure given our propensity to install hard infrastructure?
o How do we mitigate earlier/shorter run-off and low flow/high temperature issues?
o Resident Hunters’ preferences and Willingness to Pay for Moose Management
o How do we fund fish and wildlife management in BC?
o What are the province’s core responsibilities as it relates to fish and wildlife management?
o How do we move from saying we’re concerned about wildlife to meaningful actions which restore wildlife?
